Obituary

Janie L. “Doll” Williams, 96, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, April 9, 2014; after a brief illness.

She was born in Fairfield, Florida, a daughter of the late Henry and Anna Adams Williams. She attended the local school.

A resident of Ocala, Florida for more than 70 years, she began her career at Memorial Hospital. While she worked with other businesses; she was last employed by the Ocala Elk’s Club. Her tenure at this establishment lasted into her early 90’s; resigning from a position that she enjoyed only because of a fall she suffered at home. She was recognized for 35 Outstanding Years of Service in 2006.

Having given her life to God; in her youth; she spent many happy hours at the Liberty Chapel Church. In later years she became a charter and active member of the Mount Sinai House of Prayer, charted in the early 1970’s.

“Ms. Janie” as she was affectionally called, is survived by four birth children – two daughters Linnie (Atlanta, GA) and Hercules (Ocala, FL) and two sons Edgar, Sr. (Amy) (Clearwater, FL) and Eugene (Beverly) (Albuquerque, NM); a niece Essie (St. Petersburg, FL) raised along with her children; grandchildren Edgar, Jr., Kenneth, Timothy, Gideon and Shalonda; great grandchildren Timothy, Jr. and Terrell. Her surviving siblings are Rhodia Hall (Ocala, FL) and Pelham (Mary) Williams (Atlanta, GA). In addition to the persons whose names appear here, there are a hosts of nieces, nephews, various other family members and friends.

Several brothers and sisters preceded her in transition; Nancy Fleming (Chicago, IL); Andrew, Essie, James, Lincoln and Henry, Jr. of Fairfield, FL; Rosetta Watson, Elena and Jervey (Miami, FL); and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Walker (Orangeburg, SC).

Janie was the oldest of her eight siblings and was blessed with a infectious personality and a caring for the well being of others. She was always concerned about the growth and development of her children, her five living sisters and brother. She was a peace-maker and by example guided her children and younger siblings to be loving and respectful towards each other and others. Her generosity was contagious, and as a result, she has numerous family, friends and love ones who were a joy in her life. She truly lived by the principle “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

“Doll” to those who knew her in the earlier years and “Ms. Janie” to those who knew her in the latter years, will long remember that she loved to cook and that her gift of hospitality was shared with many! We thank God for her life and that it was shared with us.
